The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is responsible for fairly and efficiently collecting state tax revenues to fund public services, to regulate charitable gaming and the sale of alcoholic beverage and tobacco, and to support state agencies in the collection of overdue debts.
Collectively, each program, unit, division and group work together to provide the core services to taxpayers of the State of Louisiana and stakeholders of the agency.
LDR is comprised of the following groups:
Tax Collection, Charitable Gaming, Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC), Debt Recovery, and Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Commission.
The Office of Alcohol & Tobacco Control (ATC) is responsible for overseeing the alcoholic and tobacco industries within the state.
The office is comprised of four divisions:
Administrative, Business, Legal and Enforcement.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Manages daily operations of the Special Operations Unit, which conducts complex investigations, enforcement operations and the storage of evidence.
Manages operations of financial investigations.
Participates in planning and developing agency goals, policies and procedures.
Advises the Commissioner on current enforcement issues.
Reviews current policies and established procedures, and develops updates as needed.
Acts as liaison to partner agencies, such as Louisiana State Police.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
